Volunteer Proposal Reviewer – Remote/Fully Virtual

Education and Culture Professional Travel Grants

The U.S. Department of State and Partners of the Americas are recruiting volunteers join the review committee for Education and Culture Professional Travel Grants. Each year, we award professional travel grants through our Education and Culture program to members of Partners of the Americas. The grants fund international travel for qualified members to visit other Partners of the Americas Chapters and affiliate organizations to work together on areas of mutual interest, supporting public diplomacy. They build bridges across borders, exchange expertise and partner with communities to create lasting change.

Review committee volunteers will play an important role in expanding international relationships and bridging capacity for these organizations and their communities. To be considered for this role, complete the application form by Thursday, February 15, 2023 11:59pm ET.

The review process will take place from Friday, March 1 through Tuesday, March 12 at 11:59pm ET. Selected reviewers may complete their proposal reviews anytime within this time period. The estimated amount of volunteer time is 6 hours total per volunteer.

 

Key Tasks & Deliverables:

  • Volunteer as a Proposal Reviewer for one round of proposal review;
  • Review and score up to ten (10) proposals using the review criteria and guidelines provided by Partners of the Americas (Anticipate around 30 minutes per proposal);
  • Complete the Proposal Review Form for each assigned proposal, including feedback for applicants and considerations for the final Selection Committee. Thoughtful feedback is essential.


Availability, Skills, and Experience:

  • If you are applying to travel or host in this round, you may not be a reviewer;
  • Available to review proposals during the time frame as listed above;
  • Available to review proposals on an online platform (Guidance will be provided);
  • Previous experience or interest in reviewing proposals for grant/sub-award competitions;
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with some of the following (it does not need to be most or all of these topics):
    • Capacity bridging
    • Civil Society Engagement
    • Communications
    • Community development
    • Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA)
    • Environmental Protection and Resilience
    • Grant writing
    • Inclusive Economic Growth and Entrepreneurship
    • International Development
    • International Exchange
    • Language Learning/Language Teaching
    • Leadership Capacity Building
    • Media Literacy/Countering Disinformation
    • Monitoring and evaluation
  • Connection to/experience in Latin America and the Caribbean
  • Spanish and/or Portuguese speakers encouraged, not required, as applications may be submitted in English, Spanish, or Portuguese. Orientation will be held in English.
  • Experts in community development, grants, international education, and related areas preferred.


After Reviewing:

  • If selected, after reviewing you will be asked to complete a brief survey documenting your time and providing feedback. You will also be provided with a certificate and language you may use on LinkedIn or in your resume.

We will notify you the week of February 19 if you have been selected for the review committee.  If selected, you will receive further instructions and a link to review proposals. You will be asked to attend 30-60-minute-long Orientation on Friday, March 1 at 1pm ET. If you are unable to attend, you must let us know and review the recording.

  • Apply by February 15 at 11:59pm ET
  • Be notified the week of February 19
  • Orientation will take place Friday, March 1 at 1pm ET
  • Review between March 1 and March 12
