ADMIN

Administrative opportunities allow volunteers to support the organization's operational and developmental needs. Volunteers in this category play a crucial role in expanding the organization's reach, creating valuable resources, and ensuring consistent and accurate communication across languages.

Description: Identify and research potential opportunities for the organization to expand its impact and reach.

Description: Develop and create relevant resource(s) to share with Partners community based on your knowledge and expertise. Examples can include manuals, guides, educational materials, recorded webinars, or templates. This can also encompass materials you've previously created and wish to share. However, please ensure that the resource does not contain proprietary information from other organizations. The role can involve either a one-off resource creation or ongoing contributions, based on the volunteer's preference.

Location: Online. Staff will communicate by email and provide an option for Zoom meetings.

Responsibilities:

  • Create or share a resource that is relevant to our organization’s mission and member community.
  • Communicate and collaborate with staff during the resource development process.
  • Provide support in resource distribution and training if needed.

Qualifications:

  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Experience in content creation or educational material development is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

Time Commitment: Flexible, based on the volunteer's availability and project requirements.

Description: Review and ensure the accuracy of translated materials to maintain the quality and consistency of the organization's content. Translated content that needs review is currently in Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Haitian Creole.

Location: Online. Staff will communicate by email and provide an option for Zoom meetings.

Responsibilities:

  • Review translated materials for accuracy, clarity, and cultural relevance.
  • Provide feedback and corrections to staff using provided glossary.
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure consistent messaging across languages.

Qualifications:

  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in both the source and target languages.
  • Previous experience in translation or language review is a plus, but not required.

Time Commitment: Flexible, based on the volunteer's availability and project requirements.

CHAPTER

Join our network of Chapters across the United States and throughout the Americas to actively engage with your community, support our mission, and make a meaningful impact. Whether you're a student, community member, or aspiring leader, there's a place for you to contribute and grow within our diverse Chapter opportunities.

Associate and Traditional Chapters

Description: Establish and lead a new Chapter in areas where none currently exists to expand the organization's reach and impact.

Location: View the Associate Chapter page that lists prospective locations. Other locations may be proposed, but these are highly encouraged.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify and engage potential members and partners in your community.
  • Organize and lead initial Chapter meetings and events.
  • Collaborate with Partners staff and leadership to establish the new Chapter.

Qualifications:

  • Entrepreneurial spirit and initiative.
  • Strong networking and community engagement skills.
  • Commitment to promoting the organization's mission and values.

Time Commitment: Varies based on the establishment and growth phase of the Chapter, approximately 10-15 hours per month initially.

Staff Support: Staff will provide guidance, support, and resources to assist in the establishment and growth of the new Chapter.

How to Apply: Before starting the process of establishing a Chapter, view the Chapter List and determine if there is one located near you. If so, we highly encourage you to join an existing Chapter. If not and you wish to establish a new Chapter, view the process for becoming a Chapter Founder. Applications to establish a Chapter must receive approval from Partners leadership. Description: Play a vital role in organizing events, recruiting new members, and raising awareness about our programs and initiatives.

Location: Various locations across the Americas. View the Chapter List.

Responsibilities:

  • Organize and lead Chapter meetings, events, and activities.
  • Recruit and onboard new Chapter members.
  • Act as a liaison between Chapter members and Partners staff by submitting Chapter reports and Chapter leadership updates after elections or transitions, and by attending the quarterly Chapter Leader Meeting for announcements and updates from staff to then communicate to Chapter members.
  • Manage the transition process and onboarding of new leadership at the end of the term to ensure the continuity of the Chapter.

Qualifications:

  • Leadership and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Passion for community service and volunteerism.

Time Commitment: Approximately 5-10 hours per month, depending on Chapter activities and events.

Staff Support: Staff will provide access to the Chapter Leader Resource Portal for additional resources and best practices, and ongoing support as needed. Quarterly Chapter Leader Meetings act as a space to keep Leaders up to date with the latest news and guidance, and an opportunity to ask staff questions or provide feedback.

Description: Provide guidance and advice to PartnersCampus Chapters to ensure their success and impact within their educational institutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Mentor and support student Chapter Leaders and members.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Chapter and the educational institution.
  • Collaborate with staff to align student initiatives with organizational goals.
  • Approve Chapter budgets and reports.
  • Provide guidance for Chapter events and activities as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Current faculty member at a higher education institution or secondary school where a PartnersCampus Chapter has been established.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Commitment to promoting student engagement, civic responsibility, and volunteerism.

Time Commitment: Approximately 5-10 hours per month, including Chapter meetings, events, and communication with student leaders.

Staff Support: Staff will provide ongoing support, training, and resources to assist the Faculty Advisor in fulfilling their role effectively.

How to Apply: Establishing a new PartnersCampus Chapter requires that the position of Faculty Advisor be filled. To be a Faculty Advisor to an existing Chapter requires that you be a faculty member at the same institution where a PartnersCampus Chapter resides. COMMUNICATIONS

Communications volunteers amplify the impact and reach of Partners of the Americas through various channels. Volunteers in this category play a pivotal role in crafting compelling narratives, fostering community engagement, and promoting the organization's initiatives across digital platforms.

Description: Facilitate discussions, share resources, and promote collaboration between members in our Communities of Practice (COPs) on PartnersConnect, the online member community. Communities of Practice provide opportunities for discussion, sharing of resources and knowledge, engagement, and networking for those interested in the Community topic.

Location: Online. Staff will communicate by email and provide an option for Zoom meetings.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as the resident expert on the Community topic and stay updated on trends, issues, and opportunities.
  • Share relevant resources, articles, or opportunities to support Community members.
  • Monitor and facilitate discussions to ensure respectful and productive interactions per the Online Code of Conduct.
  • Promote collaboration and knowledge sharing among Community members.
  • Collaborate with staff to address technical issues and sustain a vibrant Community.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work effectively with members and with Partners of the Americas staff.
  • Commitment to respond to email in a timely fashion as well as communicate using virtual collaboration tools, such as PartnersConnect.
  • Willingness to adopt organization-wide perspectives and strategic priorities.
  • Experience with online communication tools and webinar coordination is a plus.

Time Commitment: Preferable for commitment to serving a two-year term, with a possible one-term extension (4 years in total). Approximately 1-2 hours per month, depending on the activity of the Community.

Staff Support: Staff will provide a training orientation, in addition to ongoing support, guidance, and resources to assist the Community of Practice Moderator in fulfilling their role effectively. Staff will also strategically promote the Community and its activities.

Description: Act as a storyteller for the organization, capturing and sharing compelling narratives that highlight the impact of our programs, member community, Chapters, and/or initiatives. Through engaging storytelling, you'll help raise awareness of Partners of the Americas' mission, values, and achievements, fostering a deeper connection with our global community.

Location: Online. Staff will communicate by email and provide an option for Zoom meetings.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with staff to develop storytelling strategies and themes.
  • Create engaging content through your preference of storytelling technique, such as:
    • Writing articles, blog posts, or other content that effectively communicates the organization's impact.
    • Creating multimedia content, such as videos or music, to share stories in diverse and engaging formats.
    • Conducting interviews with members, volunteers, or staff to gather personal stories, experiences, and insights.
  • Assist in promoting and amplifying voices of the member community by sharing their stories and content.

Qualifications:

  • Strong storytelling and writing skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives.
  • Commitment to respond to email in a timely fashion as well as communicate using virtual collaboration tools, such as PartnersConnect.
  • Willingness to adopt organization-wide perspectives and strategic priorities.
  • Experience with social media content creation is a plus.

Time Commitment: Flexible, based on the volunteer's availability and preferred storytelling technique.

Staff Support: Staff will provide ongoing support and resources to assist the Impact Storyteller in fulfilling their role effectively. This includes guidance on storytelling techniques, access to relevant information and contacts, and feedback on content produced.

Description: Write content to post in our News section. Examples can include member stories, volunteer experiences, project achievements and impact, personal expertise, volunteer strategy, relevant industry knowledge, or other proposed subjects.

Location: Online. Staff will communicate by email and provide an option for Zoom meetings.

Responsibilities:

  • Write one or multiple article(s) relevant to the Partners community.
  • Review and edit article(s) for clarity, accuracy, and alignment with the organization's messaging.
  • Collaborate with staff to develop content and submit for review and editing.

Qualifications:

  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Familiarity with the organization's mission, vision, and programs.
  • Previous experience in journalism, communications, or content creation is a plus, but not required.

Time Commitment: Flexible, based on the writer's availability and preference for number of article(s).

Staff Support: Staff will provide ongoing support, guidance, and feedback to assist the News Article Writer in producing high-quality content. A template will be provided to ensure alignment with Partners branding. Upon completion, staff will promote the article to the community.

Description: Promote Partners’ work, share our stories, and engage with our online community through social media platforms. As a Social Media Ambassador, you'll serve as an important connecter within the network of volunteers and change-makers across the Americas.

Location: Online. You may choose to focus on a preferred social media platform, or multiple. Our official profiles are located on PartnersConnect, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and X. Staff will communicate by email and provide an option for Zoom meetings.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with staff to implement social media campaigns and strategies.
  • Monitor and respond to comments and messages from our online community, PartnersConnect, and/or other official social media platforms.
  • Create and share engaging content to promote Partners of the Americas' programs and communities.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities that allow you to engage in online discussions in a respectful and appropriate manner.
  • Commitment to respond to email in a timely fashion as well as communicate using virtual collaboration tools, such as PartnersConnect.
  • Willingness to adopt organization-wide perspectives and strategic priorities.
  • Experience with social media content creation is a plus.

Staff Support: Staff will provide a toolkit, sample social media posts, and guidelines to assist the Social Media Ambassador in fulfilling their role effectively.

EVENTS

Event volunteers contribute to the organization's educational and networking initiatives by organizing and presenting webinars, workshops, and conferences. These opportunities allow volunteers to educate, inspire, and connect members of the Partners of the Americas community.

Description: Propose and present an online webinar or workshop to educate and inspire others. Preferred focus areas include community and Chapter initiatives, project design and implementation, fundraising, risk management, volunteer engagement, intercultural communication, issue areas that align with UN Sustainable Development Goals, or other topics relevant to the organization’s mission and member interests will be considered.

Location: Staff will communicate by email and provide an option for Zoom meetings. The official Partners Zoom acount is the default option for hosting webinars. If you have a preference for a different platform, staff will coordinate with you.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and prepare content for the webinar or workshop.
  • Coordinate with staff to schedule and promote the webinar with sufficient advance notice, preferably at least a month prior.
  • Engage with participants during the webinar to facilitate learning and discussion.

Qualifications:

  • Commitment to respond to email in a timely fashion.
  • Familiarity with online event platforms such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams.
  • Proficiency in the subject matter of the proposed webinar or workshop.
  • In possession of a computer and other necessary technological equipment that is prepared to display high-quality video and sound.

Time Commitment: Varies based on the webinar or workshop content and preparation needs. If you wish to have support during the live event, staff are available Monday through Friday, 9:00 – 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

Staff Support: Staff will provide guidance for online events and promotion to the member community. If the presenter wishes to have technical support during the webinar, the option is available to coordinate during business hours.

What Works Conference

Description: Present an engaging session or workshop at the annual What Works Conference, focusing on innovative approaches to social and economic development in the Americas. Share practical strategies, successful case studies, or innovative methods related to the conference topics.

Location: See this list for past locations.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and prepare content for the session or workshop, ensuring it aligns with the conference's theme.
  • Collaborate with staff organizers to communicate technological requirements, accommodations, and any other updates in a timely manner to ensure smooth planning and execution.
  • Adhere to the allocated time for the presentation and Q&A session to facilitate a smooth transition between sessions.
  • Engage the audience with clear, audible speech, interactive activities, and inclusive language.

Qualifications:

  • Commitment to respond to staff communications in a timely manner and meet deadlines for attendance confirmation, content requests, registration.
  • Ability to present in English, Spanish, or Portuguese.
  • Proficiency in the subject matter of the proposed webinar or workshop.
  • Prior experience in public speaking or presenting at conferences is a plus.

Time Commitment: The actual time commitment will vary based on the speaker's preparation process, the complexity of the topic, and the level of engagement with the audience and other conference activities.

Staff Support: Staff will provide regular communication and updates. During the event, you will receive support from staff and on-site volunteers for logistical and technical aspects of your presentation. For any questions, email the team at PartnersEvents@partners.net.

Description: Serve as the honorary host of the What Works Conference by applying to be a Local Logistics Team. You play a pivotal role in organizing and coordinating conference logistics in your country/city. This is a unique opportunity to showcase your organizational skills, contribute to the success of an international event, and promote your local community as a hub for social innovation and development initiatives.

Location: See this list for past locations. Applications are currently open. The next location could be in your city!

Responsibilities:

  • Communicate updates and needs with staff in a timely manner by responding to email and attending organizer meetings.
  • Identify options for venues, accommodations, and transportation.
  • Collaborate with Partners of the Americas to secure local sponsorships.
  • Advise on local vendors for conference services such as catering, signage, and technology needs.
  • Recommend local activities and attractions of interest for attendees.
  • Plan and organize evening cultural activities during the conference.
  • Support staff with volunteer recruitment efforts for onsite management during the conference.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
  • Familiarity with local venues, accommodations, vendors, and cultural activities.
  • Possess strong networking skills or connections with local businesses, organizations, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team and Partners of the Americas staff.
  • Event planning experience is a plus.

Time Commitment: Duration of the planning and coordination phase leading up to the conference, which includes a monthly meeting with staff, and the conference dates.

Staff Support: Volunteers will receive ongoing support and guidance from Partners of the Americas staff throughout the planning and execution phases of the conference. Staff will schedule monthly virtual meetings to check in and provide updates. During the event, staff will be present and available for support. PROGRAMS

Programs encompass a wide range of initiatives at Partners. Most aim to foster educational exchange, cultural understanding, and agricultural development. Volunteers can contribute to these impactful programs by reviewing program proposals, facilitating cultural exchanges, and providing technical assistance to farmers and agricultural institutions.

100,000 Strong in the Americas

Description: Join the 100,000 Strong in the Americas Innovation Fund and play a pivotal role in reviewing and evaluating proposals to ensure they align with the program's goals and objectives. This program is a public-private sector collaboration led by the U.S. Department of State, U.S. Embassies, Partners of the Americas, and various corporations and foundations. It aims to stimulate new higher education partnerships between the United States and the rest of the Western Hemisphere.

Location: Online. Staff will communicate by email and schedule virtual meetings through Zoom.

Responsibilities:

  • Review and assess program proposals based on established criteria and guidelines.
  • Provide constructive feedback and recommendations to applicants to enhance the quality and competitiveness of their proposals.
  • Collaborate with the program team to finalize and approve selected proposals.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in internationalization, academic exchanges, grant writing, program design, language instruction, student support, regional knowledge (refer to Request for Proposal for details), and/or thematic expertise (refer to RFP).
  • Commitment to respond to email in a timely fashion as well as communicate using virtual collaboration tools, such as Zoom.
  • Willingness to adopt organization-wide perspectives and strategic priorities.

Time Commitment:

  • Round 1: 8-12 proposals, approximately 2-week timeframe
  • Round 2: 12-20 proposals, approximately 2-week timeframe
  • Final Selection (for Round 2 volunteers only): 3-hour virtual meeting

Education and Culture

Description: Host a member participating in the Education and Culture program's travel grant program. These grants fund international travel for qualified members to collaborate with Partners of the Americas Chapters and Organizational Members, promoting public diplomacy and creating lasting impact through cross-border partnerships. Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with staff to facilitate the hosting process and ensure a positive experience for the travel grant participant.
  • Provide accommodations and support for program participants during their stay.
  • Engage in cultural activities, professional events, and networking opportunities with the travel grantee.
  • Provide guidance and support to the travel grantee during their stay.

Qualifications:

  • Must be associated with a Partners of the Americas Chapter or Organizational Member.
  • Ability to accommodate a traveler who may need support and guidance during their stay.
  • Interest in cross-cultural exchange and fostering international connections.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of local culture, resources, and opportunities.

Time Commitment: Dependent on the nature of the exchange and the planning process before the trip. Travelers typically stay with a host for 10-15 days.

Description: Join the Education and Culture program's review committee to provide feedback and recommendations on applications for travel grants and subawards. Your voice will help guide the review process when making final decisions.

Location: Online. Staff will communicate by email and provide an option for Zoom meetings.

Responsibilities:

  • Review and score up to ten (10) proposals using the review criteria and guidelines provided by staff.
  • Provide thoughtful feedback for applicants and considerations for the final Selection Committee.
  • Complete assigned proposal reviews by established deadlines.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Connection to/experience in Latin America and the Caribbean.
  • Spanish and/or Portuguese speakers encouraged as applications may be submitted in English, Spanish, or Portuguese. Orientation will be held in English.
  • Interest in cross-cultural exchange and fostering international connections.
  • Professionals working in community development, grants, international education, and related areas are preferred.

Time Commitment: Estimated 6 hours total per volunteer. Generally, each proposal takes 30 minutes to review.

Farmer-to-Farmer

Description: Since 1991, Partners’ Farmer-to-Farmer (F2F) program has been transforming lives in over 30 countries. Supported by USAID, F2F connects specialized U.S. volunteers with farmers, cooperatives, and agribusinesses to enhance food production, income, market access, and conservation efforts.

Location: The FY24-FY28 USAID Farmer-to-Farmer (F2F) Caribbean Basin Program is seeking volunteers from the United States for assignments in the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Guyana, and Jamaica.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical assistance and training to farmers, cooperatives, agribusinesses, and other institutions in areas such as food production and processing, farm operations, finance, organizational capacity, and more.
  • Collaborate with local partners to identify needs and develop tailored solutions.
  • Share expertise and best practices to build capacity and enhance local agricultural practices and businesses.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Agricultural experience, small enterprise development, marketing/communication skills, and group formation/development are desired.
  • Strong technical or practical background combined with good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Language skills (basic Spanish or English) are a plus but not required.

Time Commitment: Assignments last a minimum of 15 days, typically 2 to 3 weeks. Volunteers must also ensure their availability for the pre-departure orientation, in-country assignment, and post-assignment reporting.

Staff Support: Staff will provide support throughout the volunteer assignment process. Volunteers will attend an orientation before the assignment, and will receive guidance on local context, cultural considerations, and lodging arrangements.
