Description of the Grant: The project seeks to generate opportunities of inclusion in the art-entrepreneurship field to young adults with different capacities and skills (Down Syndrome). The project included training and facilitation tools to 20 young adults (most with Down Syndrome) related to art (painting) and emotional intelligence as well as counseling to caregivers so they are able to engage these young adults in activities through which they can learn to function more independently. The Fundacion FEDE's serves individuals with special needs who are often excluded in Colombia from accessing opportunities that are pertinent to their success as individuals. The program seeks to address these issues of neglect in hopes of benefiting low-income young adults with special needs, 50% of which are women from vulnerable communities and neighborhoods in Barranquilla and other municipalities in Colombia. Following the completion of the program, participants will be able to sell their handcrafted art as a way for them to initiate themselves as entrepreneurs, all with the help of caregivers in their logistical activities such as, organizing the venue. In addition, Fundacion FEDE will follow-up communications with the caregivers, therapists, and young adult participants for at least one year after completing the program.
