Description of the Grant: With the objective toencourage local school children and youth to champion environmental causes, inspiring their interest and excitement through a focused program of field science and discovery-based learning. The program aims to identify, engage and educate 40 local schoolchildren through their Young EcoLeaders Program to become knowledgeable and active in defense of their rainforest environment as well as work with teachers and students in two local schools to encourage and promote activities and learnings on environmental education and leadership. This innovative project addresses the lack of opportunity in rural schools to provide for children and helping them explore nature. Particularly, educating the next generation on forest restoration. The goal is to produce students who are curious, able to ask questions, creative and collaborative, and who acquire a practical understanding of the importance of the environment and will be proactive in defending it, no matter what professions they choose to follow.
