Location of the Grant: MOSTRA XII will be done on a hybrid form mostly virtually, and if allowed by the pandemic, with a few events done in some of the partner universities. Duration: 11/03/2021 - 11/13/2021
Description of the Grant: The Goal of MOSTRA: Brazilian Film Festival is to increase reciprocal interest for social and cultural experience exchanges between Brazil and USA and to present concepts of equality, sustainability, hope and social transformation through education, giving pedagogical support to professors interested in stimulating the reflection of their students through movies. Through this event they intend to expose existing cultural and social manifestations in Brazil, often unknown and mystified in the imagination and perception of the people. The events objectives include: educating students to give pedagogical support to professors interested in stimulating the reflection of their students through movie presentations; engage a much larger audience which will have access to the virtual festival; create intervention and provide discussion mechanisms before/after the movie presentations with Brazilian filmmakers and experts on common USA/Brazil social issues; promote exchange of ideas between both states and countries about issues covering both and possible solutions; and give continuation to the project begun in 2010, which has increasingly become a relevant yearly Brazilian educational and cultural film festival. The event which will be presented virtually in Chicago will consist of over 20 films including: shorts, features, fictions and documentaries.
