International Attendees

Are you not a Panamanian national?

We're thrilled to have you join us for the What Works Conference in Panamá. As your prepare for this event as an international attendee, here are some essential considerations to ensure your trip to Panamá is smooth and enjoyable.

Visa Requirements
Before traveling to Panamá, please check the visa requirements based on your nationality. Many attendees from North America, Europe, and other regions can enter Panama visa-free for tourism purposes. However, requirements vary by country, so confirm entry rules well in advance and apply for a visa if needed.

Passport Validity
Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your planned departure date from Panama. Some airlines may enforce this requirement at check-in, so verify before traveling.

Health and Vaccinations
Panamá does not typically require specific vaccinations for entry, but if you are arriving from a country with risk of yellow fever transmission, a yellow fever vaccination certificate may be required. Consult your healthcare provider about recommended vaccines and consider purchasing travel health insurance to cover any unexpected medical expenses.

Currency and Exchange
The official currency is the Balboa (PAB), which is pegged 1:1 to the U.S. Dollar (USD). In practice, the U.S. Dollar is used for almost all cash transactions. Credit cards are widely accepted, and ATMs are common in Panamá City.

Language
Spanish is the official language of Panamá. English is spoken in many hotels, restaurants, and tourist areas, but learning a few Spanish phrases can enhance your experience and interactions.

Transportation
Tocumen International Airport (PTY) is Panamá City’s main international gateway. Taxis, ride-sharing apps (Uber, InDriver), and private transfers are readily available. It’s recommended to arrange airport transportation in advance. Within the city, the Panamá Metro is safe and efficient, and taxis are inexpensive but should be negotiated or app-based to avoid overcharging.
