During Your Stay in Lima
- Recommended transportation apps are Uber and Cabify.
- Most secure. Both accept payment in cash and card.
- Uber is cheaper than Cabify, but both are great!
- Other apps, such as InDrive, only accept cash and are the least secure. Yango and Didi are cheaper and more secure than InDrive, but less secure than Uber and Cabify.
- Are you thirsty?
- Do not drink tap water. If you have a kettle, boil the water first.
- If not, drink bottled water. Most of Peru's bottled water is still water. If you want sparkling water, you must ask for it.
- Still water: agua sin gas
- Sparkling water: agua con gas
- Would you like to order some food for delivery? Use apps such as PedidosYa, Rappi, or DidiFood.
- Recommendation is PedidosYa, although Rappi has different options, and DidiFood has many coupons.
- Cash or card?
- Try to have cash (Peruvian Soles / PEN) only for specific transactions (i.e., if you go to the market or want to tip someone)
- Card/Apple Pay/Google Pay are the most secure payment methods. Do not give your card to anyone! They will bring the POS machine to you.
- Another payment method is Yape (the Peruvian Venmo). Unfortunately, you'll have to create a savings account in Banco de Crédito (and some PEN, of course) to use it.
- You can use ATMs. Preferably, use Global Net ATMs located inside Interbank offices.
- Exchange rate is approximately 1USD = 3.78 PEN.
- Recommended convenience stores:
- Tambo+ (known as "Tambo")
- Oxxo
- Mass

- Metro
- Tottus
